Shenzhen ZH Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd. was established in 2021 and is a leading global manufacturer of key materials and energy storage equipment for flow batteries. Based on the research and development, promotion, and application of electrochemical energy storage technology, the company aims to help China achieve its "carbon neutrality" goal through the industrialization of energy storage technology. The company has built an annual production capacity of one hundred megawatt hours of fuel cell stack production line, which can provide the market with flow battery energy storage equipment ranging from ten kilowatts to megawatts. At the same time, relying on the nearly 20 years of experience accumulated by its founder Dr. Xie Wei in the field of flow batteries in the United States, the company has jointly developed key materials with better performance and lower cost, including new electrodes and non fluorine ion exchange, with Professor Liu Suqin from Central South University. Membranes are used to reduce the system cost of flow batteries, making them a more widely accepted energy storage technology in the market.


      Dr. Xie Wei obtained a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Materials Science from Tsinghua University, and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Texas in Austin, USA. He led the development of separators and stacks at the largest liquid flow battery company in the United States, in collaboration with DuPont and 3M to improve perfluorinated sulfonic acid resin ion exchange membranes. He also established Vionx Energy liquid flow battery production company through technical authorization, which has now been acquired by Largo Resource to become Largo Energy liquid flow battery company.


ZH Energy Storage will participate in the 8th World Battery Industry Expo and Asia Pacific Battery/Energy Storage Exhibition from August 8th to 10th, 2023, with physical products such as 32kW and 10kW flow battery stacks, new electrodes, and non fluorine ion exchange membranes. The 32kW and 10kW fuel cells exhibited by the company this time are mass-produced products on the new production line. After more than two years of new design, polishing, and repeated testing, this series of products has completely independent intellectual property rights and includes numerous innovative designs. At present, the offline testing of this series of fuel cells can achieve system efficiency exceeding industry standards (80%) at a high power density of 200mW/cm2.

      The company has currently implemented a 100 kilowatt level liquid flow battery energy storage system in a commercial and industrial park in Wuhan. It has been running on the grid for six months with good efficiency and stability, bringing good returns to the owner unit.



      The company's new graphite felt electrode originates from the authorized patent of Professor Liu Suqin from Central South University. The company has developed the production process and ultimately improved the product conversion of this technology, achieving mass production. Compared to existing electrodes in the market, this product can not only improve the system efficiency of batteries, but also increase the utilization rate of vanadium electrolyte, which can reduce the overall cost of flow batteries from both aspects.



      The non fluorinated ion exchange membrane jointly developed by the company and Professor Liu Suqin adopts a brand new chemical structure design, which solves the chemical stability problem of the previous non fluorinated ion exchange membrane. In terms of battery testing performance, it is better than the current mainstream product Kemu perfluorosulfonic acid proton exchange membrane Nafion, and the cost of raw materials is reduced by 90%. This will bring a huge cost reduction to industries that use ion exchange membranes such as liquid flow batteries, fuel cells, and hydrogen energy.
