【 Summary 】The sulfur-iron flow battery is suitable for high-temperature conditions, has an optimal discharge duration of 6–12 hours, and offers low costs. It is particularly well-suited to meet the energy stora

On April 11, 2025, during the 13th International Summit on Energy Storage in Beijing, Mr. Xie Wei, founder of ZH Energy, was invited to attend the "Southeast Asia Energy Transition Collaboration Matchmaking Event" co-hosted by the Chongqing Renewable Energy Society and the China Energy Storage Alliance. The event brought together representatives from government agencies in Thailand, Laos, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, and other countries to discuss the future of green energy in Southeast Asia.

Southeast Asia faces complex energy challenges due to its dispersed islands, weak grid infrastructure, and the contradiction between renewable energy intermittency and power stability. To address these issues, there is an urgent need for long-duration, low-cost, and safe energy storage technologies. At the event, Mr. Xie Wei introduced ZH Energy 's core technology—self-developed sulfur-iron flow battery long-duration energy storage—which provides comprehensive energy storage solutions tailored for adaptability, safety, and economic feasibility. These solutions are designed to empower energy transitions in industrial parks and cities across Southeast Asia.

The sulfur-iron flow battery uses low-cost sulfur and iron compound electrolytes, with costs as low as 0.2 RMB/Wh. The raw materials are widely available and price-stable, making it an ideal solution for scaling up cost-effective energy storage in Southeast Asia. Tailored to Southeast Asia's climate, which has an average annual temperature of 28°C and extreme humidity reaching 45°C, the sulfur-iron electrolyte does not produce precipitation at high temperatures and maintains better reactivity. This eliminates the need for high-temperature cooling systems, reducing both system costs and operational energy consumption while solving safety challenges in tropical high-temperature and high-humidity environments. Additionally, the low cost of the electrolyte gives the sulfur-iron flow battery a significant marginal cost advantage, especially in systems with longer discharge durations (6–12 hours), making it perfectly suited for applications in island microgrids, renewable energy storage, and other scenarios in Southeast Asia.

As Southeast Asia is at a critical stage of energy transition, ZH Energy will use this collaboration event as an opportunity to deepen technical cooperation and accelerate localization efforts. The company aims to provide Southeast Asia with "long-duration, low-cost, and safer" flow battery energy storage solutions, build a collaborative energy storage ecosystem with partners, and contribute to the green energy transition in Southeast Asia and globally.
