ZH Energy Storage won the second prize in the Hunan Province Overseas Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition

【 Summary 】The long-term energy storage technology of high safety and low-cost sulfur iron flow battery in the competition project won the second prize in the entrepreneurship group.

On September 19th, under the guidance of the Hunan Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security and the Hunan Provincial Committee of the Zhigong Party, and hosted by the Hunan Expert Service Center, the final of the 2024 Fourth Hunan Provincial Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition for Overseas Chinese Students came to a successful conclusion in Changsha. Zhou Guangming, a member of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of the Hunan Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security, attended and delivered a speech.

The project "High Safety and Low Cost Sulfur Iron Liquid Flow Battery Long Term Energy Storage Technology", represented by our Vice General Manager Yuan Hao, has been selected from the preliminary to final rounds. With its vast market potential, innovative business model, and significant social benefits, it stood out and won the second prize in the entrepreneurship group.

This competition is an important part of the entrepreneurship support program for overseas students in Hunan Province, and it is also a brand competition with high standards, large scale, excellent quality, and wide influence among the overseas returnee group in the province. The participants have overseas backgrounds and a global perspective. The participating projects cover emerging fields such as digital industry, biomedicine, new energy, and new materials. The competition will be conducted in the form of project roadshows and Q&A, and will be comprehensively evaluated based on six dimensions: project service, business ability, team ability, social benefits, honor situation, and on-site defense. It will provide strong financial support, policy support, investment and financing docking, publicity and promotion, and brand endorsement for the award-winning projects, helping them grow rapidly.

Zhou Guangming, member of the Party Group and Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security, mentioned that the department actively builds bridges and paves the way for overseas returnees to innovate and start businesses in Hunan. It continues to carry out the "Support Plan for Overseas Returnees' Entrepreneurship Launch" and has established a comprehensive service system including entrepreneurship training, selection funding, publicity and promotion, landing incubation, and financing docking. It has high economic and social benefits and is an important practical achievement in Changsha's construction of a global research and development center.

Long term energy storage technology for high safety and low-cost sulfur iron flow batteries

As the latest technological route in the field of liquid flow, sulfur iron batteries have the advantage of the lowest electrolyte cost and have received widespread attention in recent years. ZH Energy Storage is the earliest company in the world to commercialize sulfur iron batteries, and its industrialization progress is rapid. The first engineering demonstration project will be built in 2024, and commercial products will be launched in 2025.

With the commercialization of sulfur iron flow batteries, there will be an opportunity to reduce the full life cost of energy storage systems to 0.1 yuan/kWh, and the cost of wind and solar power generation will be less than 0.2 yuan/kWh. The combination of the two will be equivalent to the cost of thermal power generation.

The current mainstream flow battery technology route in the market is all vanadium flow batteries. Due to the high price of vanadium, the cost of electrolyte is high, which hinders further reduction of flow energy storage costs. On the basis of ensuring safety, long-term, and high performance, neutralization energy storage can effectively solve the pain points and resource problems in the current industry market by solving material innovation, improving efficiency, and reducing costs. It can improve the power density of the fuel cell stack, develop high-performance and low-cost non fluoride ion exchange membranes, and develop resource rich and low-cost sulfur iron electrolytes to reduce installation costs. The total cost of electricity per kilowatt hour is much lower than that of lithium batteries and sodium batteries, and the total cost of combining with wind and solar power generation is lower than that of thermal power generation, which can achieve comprehensive substitution of new energy.
