On May 24-26, the 2024 Vanadium Battery Tianfu Forum, hosted by the National Vanadium and Titanium Industry Alliance, was successfully held in Chengdu. The forum, with the theme of "New Energy Storage Vanadium Power Country," focused on major industry concerns and was the first high-end forum and chain business conference in China to focus on vanadium batteries. More than 300 experts and scholars from vanadium resource rich areas, leading enterprises in vanadium batteries, advantageous enterprises in the industrial chain, research institutes, and related investment institutions. Xie Wei, co-founder and chief scientist of ZH Energy Storage, was invited to give a keynote speech on the technological development and exploration of all vanadium and sulfur iron flow batteries, and was appointed as a member of the Vanadium Battery Expert Committee of the National Vanadium and Titanium Industry Alliance.
Dr. Xie Wei said, "With the continuous increase in the proportion of new energy generation such as wind and solar power, long-term energy storage technology has become particularly important. Taking Qinghai as an example, energy storage takes 6-8 hours. Based on the current market pain points of high installation costs and limited vanadium resources of all vanadium flow batteries, neutralizing energy storage can effectively solve the market pain points by improving the power density of the battery stack, developing PBI ion exchange membranes with equivalent performance and low cost, and independently developing resource rich and low-cost sulfur iron electrolytes, in order to reduce the full life cost of flow batteries."
Finally, Dr. Xie Wei also shared the progress of the company's various product series at the current stage: all vanadium flow battery (mature commercialization landing), PBI ion exchange membrane (commercialization order promotion stage), and sulfur iron flow battery (under construction of 1MWh demonstration project).
During the forum, a plaque awarding ceremony was also held by the Vanadium Battery Expert Committee of the National Vanadium and Titanium Industry Alliance. Dr. Xie Wei from ZH Energy Storage is honored to be a member of the Vanadium Battery Expert Committee. The Vanadium Battery Professional Committee of the National Vanadium and Titanium Industry Alliance has been officially established, which will further deepen exchanges, cooperation, and empowerment within the industry.
2024 is the first year for vanadium batteries in China! It is also a key turning point for liquid flow batteries in the field of long-term energy storage technology. With the continuous breakthroughs in technological innovation, policy support, market demand growth, and continuous cost reduction, the penetration rate of flow batteries in new energy storage projects will significantly increase. The long-term energy storage technology of flow batteries with multiple technological routes is expected to achieve important breakthroughs and development in this year.
