Why did liquid flow batteries suddenly become dazzling stars?



Security:

Currently, worldwide, with the rapid development of the energy storage market, we have also seen frequent accidents:

In April, an explosion occurred at the Dahongmen energy storage station in Beijing, resulting in 2 deaths and 1 loss

The largest Tesla energy storage station in Australia caught fire in August, burning for 4 days

These are all based on lithium batteries as the core energy storage unit, and safety has always been a knife hanging above our heads!

Long term and cost:

Due to the power and capacity coupling characteristics of lithium batteries, we see that most energy storage systems using lithium batteries have a discharge time of 2 hours.

However, in many scenarios, energy storage systems have a longer demand for discharge duration.

For example, the current power grid has a peak to valley time of 8 hours each day

We can see from comparing the full life cycle electricity cost of energy storage systems that the electricity cost of lithium battery energy storage systems does not significantly decrease over time.

However, due to the independence of the reactor as a power unit and the electrolyte as a capacity storage unit in the structure of the flow battery, when expanding the capacity, only the electrolyte part needs to be expanded, and the cost gradually decreases with the extension of energy storage time.







On September 11th, the National Development and Reform Commission issued a notice on improving the dual control measures for energy consumption intensity and total amount, emphasizing the encouragement of local governments to increase consumption of renewable energy.

According to the consumption of renewable energy electricity and the trading of green electricity certificates in various provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government), for regions that exceed the weight of incentive renewable energy electricity consumption responsibility, the consumption amount exceeding the minimum weight of renewable energy electricity consumption responsibility will not be included in the annual and five-year plan current energy consumption assessment of the region------ And this will be directly related to the current power rationing policy.



It can be foreseen that with the implementation of more policies to achieve the "dual carbon goals", the scale of renewable energy mainly based on wind and solar power will continue to maintain rapid development. However, due to the instability of wind and solar power, larger scale long-term and large capacity energy storage will be needed to reduce the impact of wind and solar power on the power grid and avoid wind and solar power abandonment.



At the same time, due to the popularity of new energy vehicles, the demand for power batteries has skyrocketed, and the price of lithium batteries has become limited in the future. The energy storage media used in liquid flow batteries can be low-cost media such as vanadium, sulfur iron, etc.
