The charging volume of new energy vehicles during the National Day holiday has reached a historic high! Energy storage may become the preferred option

In the just passed National Day Golden Week, new energy travel has become a trend! Now let's take a look at two sets of data:

On October 9th, the National Energy Administration announced that through statistical analysis of 24400 highway charging piles included in the national charging facility monitoring service platform, from 0:00 on October 1st to 24:00 on October 7th, the number of charging times for electric vehicles on highways reached 3.1 million, with a charging capacity of 72.1527 million kilowatt hours and an average daily charging capacity of 10.3075 million kilowatt hours, which is 2.4 times that of weekdays this year, an increase of 34% compared to May Day this year, and an increase of 80% compared to last year's National Day, setting a new historical high.

The rapid year-on-year growth is truly astonishing, with over 30% of charging stations constantly breaking historical records every day. According to data from the State Grid Smart Car Networking Platform, during the peak period of the National Day holiday, more than one-third of the charging stations in China's highway service areas are operating at full capacity. 30% to 35% of all charging stations on highways are in full load charging state, while the busy charging index of these stations is only about 13%.

With the exponential growth of sales of new energy vehicles, the demand for supercharging among new energy vehicle owners has surged. The era of supercharging has arrived, and it is urgent to add supercharging equipment to traditional charging stations; However, due to factors such as low power factor and frequent occurrence of power quality problems such as harmonics during the operation of traditional charging stations, charging station storage may become the primary choice.

Charging piles with energy storage and grid connection functions can achieve a balance between local power generation and electricity load through energy storage and intelligent management. They can flexibly interact with the public grid as needed, and even operate independently to a certain extent, reducing the impact of charging demand on the grid, enhancing grid stability, and improving energy conversion efficiency, thereby reducing energy consumption.

In terms of profit model, charging stations equipped with energy storage facilities can use the "peak shaving and valley filling" mode of energy storage to earn price differences. As a result, on the basis of increasing the original revenue of the charging station, it also expands the elasticity of its electricity, service fees and other prices.

In July, the first national demonstration project for charging station distribution and storage using flow battery energy storage system was launched and connected to the grid at Shenzhen Shajing Automobile Charging Station, indicating that flow battery technology has been applied and verified in actual charging station scenarios. Liquid flow batteries, due to their inherent safety, no risk of combustion or explosion, are very important for high safety level places such as charging stations. They have the characteristics of long cycle life and environmental friendliness. Moreover, their millisecond level charge discharge switching response can adapt to fast high current charging and deep discharge, which means they can provide fast charging services for new energy vehicles in just a few minutes, giving them significant advantages in grid frequency regulation and peak shaving.

With the continuous maturity and application of innovative technologies such as flow batteries, the cost of energy storage is rapidly decreasing, providing new development opportunities for charging stations to be equipped with energy storage systems. Equipping charging stations with energy storage systems will become an important link in the new energy vehicle industry chain, contributing to promoting green travel and energy transformation.
