Recently, the Guangdong Provincial Fire Rescue Corps released the "Technical Standards for Fire Safety of Electrochemical Energy Storage Power Stations (Draft for Comments)", which is also the first provincial-level fire safety standard document for the field of electrochemical energy storage in China.

The draft for soliciting opinions provides technical specifications for the fire safety of fixed electrochemical energy storage power stations (including lithium-ion, sodium ion, lead-acid, lead carbon, and flow battery electrochemical energy storage power stations) with a rated power of 500kW and a rated energy of 500kWh or above that are newly built, renovated, or expanded within the administrative region of Guangdong Province. The specific terms are respectively constrained for station building type energy storage power stations and prefabricated cabin type energy storage power stations.

Among them, the fire hazard category for lead-acid, lead carbon battery plants, and flow battery plants is Class D; The fire hazard category of battery rooms in lithium-ion and sodium ion battery factories shall refer to Class B.

The lithium-ion and sodium ion battery rooms of the factory style energy storage power station can use automatic fire extinguishing systems such as gas fire extinguishing systems or high-pressure fine water mist that can cool down, extinguish fires, and are not prone to secondary electrical short circuits.

The electrical (communication) lines in lithium-ion battery energy storage power stations should use micro equipment integrated fireproof products, with a size not larger than commercial micro fuses. The product surface has a conductive coating, which can explode when the set triggering temperature is exceeded, extinguishing the source fire while cutting off the current.

The fire separation distance between prefabricated compartments (cabinets) for lithium-ion and sodium ion batteries should not be less than 3m for the long side and 4m for the short side of the walk-in type; Both the long and short sides of non walk-in should not be less than 3m. The distance between the prefabricated cabin (cabinet) and the road outside the station should not be less than 3m, except for road turns. When there are difficulties, a firewall with a fire resistance limit of not less than 4.00 hours should be installed between the battery prefabricated compartment and the road outside the station, and the distance between the battery prefabricated compartment and the road outside the station should not be less than 1 meter. The length and height of the firewall should exceed the outline of the prefabricated compartment by not less than 1 meter.
The partition walls around the battery room of the factory style energy storage power station, as well as the walls around the lithium-ion and sodium ion battery rooms, should be firewalls with a fire resistance limit of not less than 4.00 hours. The fire resistance limit of the top and bottom floor slabs should not be less than 2.00 hours; The partition walls around other types of battery rooms should be firewalls with a fire resistance limit of not less than 3.00 hours, and the fire resistance limit of the top and bottom floor slabs should not be less than 1.50 hours.
